NIFT Chennai Embraces Artificial Intelligence in Fashion Industry Leading the Way

In a recent development, the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in Chennai has taken a proactive step by incorporating AI into its curriculum to prepare students for the changing landscape of the industry.

During the 13th convocation ceremony, NIFT director Anitha Manohar highlighted the institute’s commitment to staying ahead of the curve by establishing a cutting-edge trend insights and forecasting lab on campus. This lab, equipped with AI and Emotional Intelligence capabilities, is the first of its kind in the country and will revolutionize the way fashion trends are analyzed and forecasted.

The integration of AI into the curriculum is a strategic move to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in a technology-driven industry. Graduates like Rajagopal Raghunath and Vaishnavee S Ganesh, who received accolades for their outstanding achievements, are a testament to the success of this initiative.

However, as NIFT student Shriya Manish pointed out, there is a need for trend forecasting services in India that cater specifically to Indian requirements. By leveraging AI to optimize the supply chain and reduce waste, students can explore innovative solutions to address these challenges.

In addition to empowering its own students, NIFT is also extending its expertise to government school students. This collaboration with the state school education department will provide opportunities for students from Eklavya Model Residential School and the government tribal residential school to pursue fashion education at NIFT Chennai.
