Exciting Grand Opening of New Basketball Court in Winnipeg!

The excitement is building in Winnipeg as a new basketball court is set to open today! The Winnipeg Sea Bears have partnered with Buckets & Borders and Payworks to debut a brand-new court at the corner of Donald Street and River Avenue. This project, known as ‘The Mayfair Project’, is a significant step forward in the Sea Bears’ commitment to enhancing basketball in the community.

The grand opening of the new court promises to be a fun-filled event for all ages. With free youth programming, all-ages basketball contests, food, giveaways, a live DJ, and more, there will be something for everyone to enjoy. The schedule for the day includes an opening ceremony, a basketball festival, competitions, giveaways, and even a local all-star game.

Sea Bears President, Jason Smith, expressed his excitement for the project, stating, “We’re honoured to have the opportunity to get more kids into the game of basketball and provide safer spaces for them to learn, grow and play. We’re looking forward to bringing the Sea Bears out to the Mayfair court and connecting with youth at these great community spaces.”

Justin Lee, CEO and co-founder of Buckets & Borders, emphasized the organization’s commitment to improving communities through basketball. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work with the Sea Bears and Payworks to bring this two-court restoration to life.

Payworks President and CEO, JP Perron, echoed these sentiments, stating, “The Mayfair Project will bring far more to the neighbourhood than just beautiful basketball courts. This shared space will have its own sense of community, where all are welcome to gather, grow and be inspired.”

The grand opening of the new court is just the beginning of the Sea Bears’ efforts to enhance basketball in the community. The team’s next home game is set for July 13, where they will take on the Vancouver Bandits at the Canada Life Centre. Tickets for the game can be purchased online.
