One of the key findings of the report is the significant opportunity presented by AI-boosted design and development. 63% of professionals surveyed see AI as a catalyst for accelerating design and development cycles, emphasizing its role in enhancing efficiency. Lowering operational costs, enabling tailored and innovative designs, improving simulation and testing, and enhancing quality assurance are among the benefits highlighted by respondents.

The report also explores the current use cases of AI in the electronics industry, with component selection topping the list. Other popular use cases include computer vision for quality control, natural language processing for technical documentation review, predictive maintenance of manufacturing equipment, and AI tools for software development.

Interestingly, the research found that ChatGPT is the most popular AI platform among survey participants, followed by Google AI services, Microsoft Azure, and IBM’s Watsonx. Security risks, potential job displacement, copyright and intellectual property issues, and concerns about the legal landscape surrounding AI were among the top concerns expressed by professionals.

Despite these concerns, confidence in AI usage is growing, with 46.7% of respondents showing increasing confidence in their AI skills. The report also uncovers timescales for adoption, preferred education resources for improving understanding of AI, and the most popular technologies in the industry.
